LyricFind, the pioneer in lyric licensing, has signed a licensing deal with ABRAMUS Digital, a subsidiary of the Brazilian PRO ABRAMUS. This will allow hundreds of publishers and many thousands of songwriters in Brazil to display and monetize their lyrics on music services and websites across the country.

“We’ve been working in Brazil, now our fifth biggest market, for years, but this agreement with ABRAMUS Digital adds a huge lyric repertoire to our service,” explains Robert Singerman, SVP of International Publishing for LyricFind. “We’re expanding access to Brazilian lyrics, going way beyond the hits into amazing lyrics from writers and artists of all styles and at all stages of their careers.”

ABRAMUS is one of the most important PROs in Brazil. A founding member of ECAD and member of CISAC and SCAPR, ABRAMUS represents more than 80k members in Brazil and internationally.

ABRAMUS Digital is a subsidiary of ABRAMUS, created to help publishers receive income from licensed digital rights from DSP’s in Brazil. ABRAMUS Digital has been representing publishers for mechanicals and online rights since 2011. It represents more than 6 million works in Brazil from more than 200 international and domestic publishers, including BMG, Kobalt, Downtown and Rocking Gorillas, and distributed approximately 65 million Brazilian reals in 2019 and 2020. ABRAMUS Digital has made notable investments in technology including a new web-based system and a highly secure database.

The Brazilian system is very complex and unique. Knowing the challenges for some publishers, ABRAMUS Digital invested in technology in recent years to offer an exclusive and transparent service. “The goal is to help publishers of all sizes, knowing that their writers will receive their fair share from the exploitation of their rights in the digital market. LyricFind plays a very important role and we are very excited about this partnership,” says Gustavo Gonzalez, Director of Business Affairs of ABRAMUS Digital.

By unlocking new opportunities and revenue streams for lyrics, LyricFind will allow ABRAMUS-associated publishers and songwriters to amplify the impact of their work on the local and global market. ”Every single income stream increases when people know the lyrics to a song,” Singerman notes. “Syncs, karaoke, mechanicals, master income, all royalties, even concert income and merch sales increase when lyrics are exhibited. Fans are more engaged when they know the song lyrics.”

This deal will also unlock Brazilian lyrics for the world to understand, as LyricFind launches a new initiative to translate an ever-growing number of them. Lyric translation will lead to more international appreciation for the deep, incisive, often poetic songwriting coming out of Brazil. “Since the bossa nova movement, people outside Brazil who didn’t know Portuguese had little chance to really hear and understand our lyrics,” explains Luciana Pegorer, Brazil lead for LyricFind and organizer of the Trends Brasil conference. “LyricFind is working to change all that.”

LyricFind CEO Darryl Ballantyne and Singerman, along with Pegorer and Gonzalez, will be presenting panels and networking sessions for publishers, platforms, songwriters, artists, managers, presenters, labels, and producers at Trends Brasil Virtual Conference 2021, July 12-16th.
